Profile

Bai Qi (ca. 332-257 BCE) was a renowned general and strategist during China's Warring States period, and one of the most important figures in the rise of the Qin state. He was a man known for both his supreme military acumen and his utter ruthlessness, for he was willing to do whatever it took to bring the Qin to greatness. His conquests turned the Qin into the unquestioned hegemon of China, laying the groundwork for its future unification of the Seven Warring States. Bai Qi led numerous far-reaching campaigns throughout his life, becoming known for his decisiveness, adaptability, and brutality towards his enemies. His most famous victories were at the battles of Yique, Changping, and Yanying, which greatly weakened the Qin's rivals and made it by far the most powerful of the Seven States. He emphasized logistics and training, remaining strict in his tactics but flexible in his overall strategy. Virtually undefeated on the battlefield, he is one of the select few commanders in Chinese history to have received the title "Ever-Victorious General". Known as one of the Four Great Generals of the Warring States for his undeniable achievements and strategic skill, Bai Qi would have a profound influence on future Chinese military theory.
