Profile

Henry V (1386-1422) was King of England and a member of the House of Lancaster. Though he only reigned for nine years, he achieved much on the field of battle. During his reign, the Hundred Years' War between England and France reignited; Henry took advantage of internal struggles within France, maintaining an alliance with the Duke of Burgundy to England's great advantage. In 1415, he formally invaded France, occupying French territory with an army of longbowmen. In 1419, Henry conquered Normandy, compelling the French king Charles VI to sign the Treaty of Troyes and winning a huge victory for England in the Hundred Years' War. Despite his substantial achievements, Henry passed away from illness in 1422. Alongside his political and military talents, Henry also had great personal charisma. He was praised for administering justice, becoming known as an impartial and incorruptible judge. He was also known for his love of art and music, and could play the Welsh harp and the flute. He was an ardent Christian, and forbade his soldiers from ransacking churches during his conquest of France.
