<c>Chapter 1</c> "Hurry up, Ram! Pack your stuff—we're heading out!" Gorren burst through the door, practically shouting at Ram, who was calmly stirring a pot. "Soup's ready," Ram said, unfazed by his companion's usual state of panic. He ladled a bowl with practiced ease. "Mmm... perfect!" Gorren took the bowl, slurped a mouthful, then launched into a breathless story. "Some traders from the East just told me the whole coast is out of shellfish! Rumor is a giant sea monster's scaring off the fishermen!" Gorren quickly polished off the soup. "So… we're going to dig up shellfish ourselves?" Ram blinked. "Of course not. What I want is—" Gorren's eyes lit up. "—the monster!" Before long, Gorren and Ram set off. As the crash of waves grew louder and the sea breeze carried the cries of gulls, they knew they were getting close. Gorren was already mentally slicing the sea monster into cuts for different dishes. He didn't even know what it looked like yet, but it didn't matter. He'd find out soon enough. "Wow, that bait smells amazing!" Ram sniffed at the enormous meatball Gorren had prepped. "Well, we're not fishing for guppies here." SPLASH. The bait was in the water. Now, all they could do was wait. Time went by, but the sea stayed still. No ripples, no sign of any monster. "Gorren, maybe it doesn't like meatballs?" Ram yawned. Gorren frowned and scratched his head. Maybe it wasn't tempting enough. Deep in debate, they failed to notice the seagulls had gone silent, and the palm trees had stopped rustling. RRRRUMMMBLE—the beach suddenly trembled and the sea swelled. "Gorren! Look!" Ram pointed. A massive shadow surged beneath the waves and a low roar rose from the depths as towering waves crashed into the sky. "Heh! It's showtime!" Gorren raised his iron pot like a shield, Feastmaker in hand, ready to carve up the sea monster. Out of the surging waves, a dark figure broke through the wall of water, drenching Gorren and Ram like wet chickens. Before Gorren could strike, a deep voice rang out. "What's that amazing smell?" "…Did the sea monster just talk?" Gorren stood there, stunned. "Monster? I am Leviathan of the Riptide tribe. I came in search of human food! Can I eat this?" Leviathan held up the bait and asked Gorren in all seriousness. What kind of strange creature was this? Gorren was baffled, but more importantly, something else caught his attention. "That's not real food in your hands. Clearly, you've never had a proper meal. Just wait, I'll prepare you a Mauler dish that'll show you what real food is." Gorren eyed the hungry stranger with a grin, eager to show him what real food was. As the dish simmered, Gorren learned more about his Draconis guest. <c>Chapter 2</c> As the strongest warrior of the Riptide tribe, Leviathan had always been different from his kin. Most of the other dragons were slender, muscular, and built for darting through the ocean currents, but he was large and sturdy. Even before he came of age, his dragon form already dwarfed that of his elders. Whenever he swam, a massive whirlpool formed behind him, dizzying the other creatures nearby. In a child's world, looking different usually meant getting picked on, and Leviathan knew that all too well. His enormous size made him the target of many pranks. However, these childish jokes didn't hurt the thick-skinned, tough Leviathan. His naturally kind and cheery personality meant he never took them to heart. But all the teasing came to a stop one sunny afternoon, when the kids cooked up yet another trick to pull on Leviathan. "Leviathan, come play tag with us!" A companion said to Leviathan, holding back a laugh. "Tag? That sounds fun! How do you play?" The young Leviathan eagerly replied. "It's simple, we run, and you chase us! Let's go!" Without waiting for Leviathan to react, the children scattered in all directions, and Leviathan quickly joined in. The children swam farther and farther, finally reaching their prank's location—a cluster of underwater caves. They darted and hid, eventually trapping Leviathan in one of the caves. The children surrounded the entrance, laughing and slapping the rocky walls. However, Leviathan didn't grow angry; instead, he grinned foolishly, laughing along with them. Suddenly, a chill surged through the water. Their playful noise attracted a bloodthirsty beast from the deep sea and panic set in. In the chaos, the kids found themselves trapped at the end of the cave. At that desperate moment, Leviathan barely moved but it was enough to break free. He quickly placed his hulking frame between his friends and danger, comforting them, "Don't worry! I'm here!" The giant beast lunged, aiming to bite him, but its sharp fangs couldn't pierce Leviathan's tough scales, leaving only a few scratches. With the beast momentarily dazed, Leviathan gave a low snarl and charged, crashing into it with a mighty headbutt. The thousand-year-old terror staggered, disoriented, and beat a hasty retreat. His companions, shaken and ashamed, apologized to Leviathan, thanking him for his protection. But Leviathan just gave a big, goofy smile and said, "No one messes with my friends." As Leviathan grew, his size and strength became unmatched, and even the ancient dragons paled in comparison. He was soon stationed at the edge of Dragon Isle, where his towering presence alone kept sea monsters at bay. He quickly earned a reputation as the Draconis faction's mightiest guardian. For all his strength, Leviathan never cared for senseless fights. He had a gentle heart and preferred guarding the seas peacefully. Unless there was no other choice, he'd never be the one to start a battle. The only thing that truly got him fired up was good food. However, the Draconis faction's cuisine was rather simple, and Leviathan found it harder and harder to find anything truly exciting to eat. That was until Dragon Isle opened its doors to the outside world, and rumors of human food began to spread. Leviathan heard from traveling dragons about the variety of delicious foods in the human world—dishes with unique flavors that far exceeded his expectations. These tales stirred his curiosity, and he couldn't resist asking the elders for permission to venture out. <c>Chapter 3</c> Maybe luck was on this gentle dragon's side, because the first person Leviathan met after leaving Dragon Isle was none other than Gorren, the Gourmet Hunter with a talent for cooking. As Leviathan wrapped up his story, the fragrant Mauler roast was finally ready. Gorren, Leviathan, and Ram eagerly dug in. "Mmm! This flavor... I've never tasted anything like it back on Dragon Isle! What is that spice? It blends in so perfectly!" Leviathan said between bites, clearly amazed. "Heh, looks like you've got a good nose for real food," Gorren grinned. For a chef, nothing beat the sight of someone devouring their cooking. Just then, a sudden gust of wind swept across the coast. The calm sea began to tremble again, and a massive shadow appeared in the distance. It seemed the mouthwatering smell of the roast had lured in a real sea monster this time. Gorren's eyes lit up with excitement. "Hey, my Draconis friend, how'd you like to try some fresh sea monster meat?" Leviathan glanced out at the ocean, then wiped his mouth and stepped toward the waves. "Absolutely! But since this is my domain, how about I help gather the ingredients this time?" With that, a towering wave crashed down, and a fierce storm kicked up as Leviathan dove into the sea. Within the misty spray, Gorren could just make out two giant beasts locked in battle. "This… this is the kind of thing you only see once in a lifetime." Thud! The enormous squid crashed onto the sand, and Gorren knew it was time to roll up his sleeves.
