Kalthin is a creature of pure malice and a slave to the Martyr's Engraving. Amidst a storm, a rickety sailboat approached a desolate coast in the Bastion of the Elements. The dozens of Sinners on it finally returned to their so-called hometown. After landing on the coast, these descendants of Hypogean followers whispered among themselves, joyful that they had survived an ordeal. The leader of this group was an old man, who was walking before everyone. When departing from the drift-away continent, he and his followers mustered all their resources to round up five vessels, and now these were the only survivors. Tracing his distant memory, the old man found an abandoned long-house, in which he instructed everyone to seek shelter from the rain. When these men, women, and children removed their clothes for drying, a strange inverted triangular engraving could be seen on each of their backs. Some were still oozing blood. When Kalthin grabbed the old man's neck and lifted its creator off the ground. Its four horrifying limbs were slaughtering the Sinners around it. The sounds of broken bones and flesh torn asunder were revolting. It said: "Listen. Are they calling me? I think that's my name, Kal–thin." It named itself after the profane voice. The old man in Kalthin's hand had already died before it finished speaking. Not long ago, this depraved man promised his followers that the engraving would grant them a sanctuary when the Hypogean army returned to the human realm. Little did they know that the engravings were actually to mark them as offerings for his sacrificial ritual. On the night they landed on shore, he activated the sacrificial ritual he had set up in the longhouse years ago when everyone was asleep. Such is the true nature of the Sinners, who are willing to sacrifice their own kind in exchange for a gift from the Hypogeans. Through an engraving ritual recorded in a forbidden scroll, the old and frail Sinner hoped to complete his ascension and become an immortal Hypogean. However, his shallow understanding of the ancient script meant that his dream was destined to be a delusion. He had misinterpreted the last phrase in the chant "Long live the ancient evil, complete on a martyr's death" as "ascended on a martyr's death". What he understood as an ascension ritual was in fact a conjuring ritual. So, the difference of a word led to the reincarnation of an ancient evil. However, the ritual was poorly executed, and the Martyr's Engraving it outlined turned out to be flawed. Born from it was Kalthin, who harbored a deep obsession with completing the Engraving from the start. The cruel Hypogean was highly intelligent but had lost the ancient knowledge. Wherever he went, hell ensued. Kalthin would capture offerings to be sacrificed, letting its four limbs trample on its victims on streets, in the wild, in halls, and at altars. It had no qualms about spilling innocent blood. Again and again, it sought to mimic the ritual of his birth with his keen instincts, trying to create a complete Martyr's Engraving. To punish this blasphemous evil, the Heresy Inquisition and the Temple of Light in the north of the Empire came out in full force to search for Kalthin in the vast wilderness of the north. However, the warriors either returned empty-handed or ended up on the list of sacrificial victims. This was until the Celestial Tarnos' Pillars of Sin descended from the sky. Finally, Tarnos stopped Kalthin's murderous rampage in a village, and for the first time, it failed to complete its "creation". But Tarnos also admitted that the cunning Hypogean had escaped its divine retribution in the final moment. Since then, Kalthin seemed to have been in hibernation. However, no one dares let down their guard. Even the bravest clerics are praying for Kalthin to be gone for good because nobody knows that if it returns with a complete Martyr's Engraving, what unimaginable horror he would visit upon them.
