The first time I met Gavus, I was just a Celestial scout. When our squad was discovered while tracking the Hypogeans, I thought we were done for. But Gavus, leading a large force, arrived just in time. Even though it was my first time seeing him in person, I knew a lot about Gavus. Among the Celestials, he was known for his brilliance. As the prize pupil of Morgana, the Goddess of Justice, he was utterly dedicated to his duties. No Hypogean could stand against his power; wherever he went, evil vanished. After we won that unforgiving battle, the surviving Celestials hurried back to the mountains, but he stayed behind, guiding our fallen comrades' souls home, including my own best friend. The seasons passed, and after suffering an injury, I retired and returned to the mountaintops, where I became a guard in the prison. Surprisingly, among the prisoners I watched, I found my former savior, Gavus. Puzzled, I wondered to myself how this promising young man could have ended up here. I asked around and learned Gavus was accused of betraying our kin, allying with a Hypogean, and stealing lost Celestial weapons before fleeing. But it didn't add up. In my eyes, he was upright and abhorred evil, even showing tenderness to fallen comrades. I couldn't shake the feeling that there might be secrets unbeknownst to others. At first, Gavus was wary, assuming that I was a Celestial spy. But after proving myself and helping him recollect past events, he still remained guarded, perhaps even troubled. I suspected he must have been worried about someone who returned with him—a boy named Liberta. So, I began bringing Gavus news about Liberta, a talented youngling studying under Morgana. He showed rapid progress, garnering the praise of the gods. Quiet and introspective, he was reminiscent of Gavus. However, his past remained tragically sealed by the gods and he couldn't recall anything before arriving at the mountains. Upon hearing this, Gavus seemed shocked but quickly regained his composure, quietly thanking me. It was the first time he reacted to something I said. Emboldened, I asked: "Why don't you want to reconcile with the gods? To me, it doesn't seem like you seek power or to overthrow the mountains by having those weapons." "During this time, you must have learned about Liberta," Gavus calmly replied. "Do you think he's just a cold, lifeless weapon?" I was speechless. "That's why I refuse to let the noble gods treat him merely as a tool for their own purposes, rather than a living being." Soon after, news arrived from the divine messenger. The Cradle of Truth, the relic and birthplace of the divine weapons, was awakening and the gods planned to dispatch Liberta, their very own divine weapon. I urgently informed Gavus, but his reaction wasn't what I expected. Instead of becoming emotional, he calmly recounted his encounters before and after his escape. By a twist of fate, Gavus and a Hypogean named Eugene, were forced to travel together. But soon they discovered that the "divine weapon" the Celestials and Hypogeans were fighting over was actually two infants. Over time, they grew attached to the innocent infants and couldn't allow themselves to let them become pawns. They fled together, seeking refuge in a remote, desolate corner of the world. Gavus spoke as if he hadn't shared these details in a long time. Although at first hesitant, he gradually became immersed in his memories. We laughed at the small moments of their seclusion—Eugene's pranks, Liberta playing with his sister Lucilla, and the notes he constantly left for Eugene due to his forgetfulness. Unintentionally, we found ourselves laughing together. It was the first time I saw Gavus laugh... He was always so restrained. "Ever since we met these two, Eugene and I wanted to rescue them from being mere weapons," Gavus said. "I don't suppose... Could you help me summon my mentor, Morgana? I must speak with her." Among the Celestials, some wished for their wayward kin to return to the right path. Lady Morgana came, hoping Gavus sought repentance. However, their meeting didn't go as planned. "Gavus, I had high hopes for you... We must control the divine weapons to prevent the Hypogeans from using them, to keep this planet replenished with life, as you know well." After finishing speaking, Lady Morgana left, disappointed and angry. "Liberta going to the Cradle of Truth is an undeniable fact. You need not say more." I looked at Gavus, who, as instructed by Lady Morgana, remained silent. I felt troubled. "Liberta no longer has his memories, and surely the Hypogeans, upon hearing this news, will bring their own divine weapon... If the siblings meet in conflict..." After a long silence, I heard a sigh. "I've done all I can. If they reunite this time..." Gavus paused, taking a deep breath, "I choose to trust them." It had been a long time since the War of Truth, the conflict between the Celestials and Hypogeans ended. At the last moment of the decisive battle, the two divine weapons vanished amidst the chaos, leaving only ruins behind. I conveyed the news to Gavus, who, upon learning the outcome, didn't say much but wore a relieved smile. He sincerely thanked me for defying my duties to pass on messages to him. At first, I had helped him out of gratitude for saving my life, but as I learned the rest of the story, I somehow found myself tacitly agreeing with him. Scratching my head, unsure how to respond, a commotion erupted outside the prison, accompanied by a girl's voice shouting, "Is this the place? Hey, Liberta, Eugene, did you get lost?" Instinctively, I looked at Gavus, who stood up and straightened his clothes. "Goodbye," he smiled and nodded at me, then added, "Hopefully, we won't meet again."
