"The Hypogeans have breached the grounds, Your Majesty," Edwin reported, bowing his head to Thoran. But the Fallen King remained still, seated on a stone throne at the heart of the cemetery. Before him, the lines of Graveborn soldiers were steadily retreating as Hypogeans flooded in from the shattered walls, slowly closing in. "Thoran, what are you doing? I ordered you to destroy the Hypogeans!" Quaedam's voice thundered in Thoran's mind, making his eye twitch. The scale of the Hypogean invasion had forced him to the front lines. Never, in all of Bantus' history as the kingdom of the Graveborn, had they faced such a grave threat. Thoran glanced at Edwin, who wore a respectful expression, but there was a sly smile that he couldn't quite hide, making him look oddly out of place. Though Thoran was in charge of the battle, the Lord of Fear, hiding in his secret tomb, had sent spies to watch his every move. The time had come. The Fallen King rose from his throne and sent a psychic command to the Graveborn soldiers. In an instant, all of them froze, then suddenly began hammering the ground beneath their feet, completely ignoring the Hypogean attacks. A deep, menacing rumble echoed from below, and with a tremendous crash, the ground of the cemetery gave way. In the blink of an eye, the Hypogean and Graveborn soldiers alike were swallowed by the abyss, leaving only Thoran and his personal guard standing on solid ground. This was his plan all along—bury the Hypogeans and his own soldiers together in the depths below. Thoran walked to the edge of the chasm, glancing up at the sky. A pair of black wings had been circling above the cemetery, and he knew they were watching him. But right now, he had other matters to deal with. The Hypogeans below awaited him. Without hesitation, he leaped into the darkness, and as it consumed him, his guards heard only the clash of steel, the roars of Hypogeans, and the crackling of flames. When the chaos finally died down, Thoran emerged from the depths, carried aloft by a massive, terrifying Graveborn dragon made entirely of bone. To Thoran, everything in Bantus belonged to him—whether it was the citizens he once ruled or the dragon, long deceased, leaving behind only bones. Quaedam may have resurrected the Deathwing Dragon, but it was Thoran who tamed it. Since then, the Graveborn dragon had become his secret weapon. "Well done, Thoran. But don't test my patience again," Quaedam's voice echoed in his mind before fading away. Edwin clapped his hands, grinning. "An audacious plan, executed to perfection." Thoran could feel it—the invasion had cost Bantus dearly, and Quaedam's power was fading. Perhaps that's why he found Edwin more insufferable with each passing day. Or maybe, as Quaedam's grip loosened, they were slowly becoming themselves again. Thoran shot Edwin a sharp glare, then, under the pretense of reconnaissance, flew away on his Deathwing Dragon, distancing himself from Quaedam's spy. He had sensed something—his loyal mount had something to say. High in the sky, he finally let the dragon speak. "Your Majesty, someone wants to meet you..." The dragon's words were cut off as Thoran's sword pressed against its skull. "Have you betrayed me, Deathwing Dragon?" Thoran demanded. "No, Your Majesty. My loyalty has never wavered." "My companion from a thousand years ago has found me. He wishes to speak with you," the dragon replied. It was those black wings—they had been watching him all along, Thoran thought. "That buzzing fly? Hmph, if it dares to get any ideas, I won't mind adding another Graveborn dragon to Bantus," Thoran sheathed his sword. Whether it was a threat or an opportunity, he would handle it. As the Deathwing Dragon carried Thoran to a deserted mountain peak, the black wings took on a human form. "King of the Graveborn, I am Skylan, Elder of the Cloudpiercer tribe. I've come to offer you a deal," the figure said. No one knew the details of Thoran's secret dealings with the Cloudpiercer elder, but soon after, Quaedam's hidden tomb was suddenly exposed to an all-out Hypogean attack. "Thoran, don't be useless! Kill those Hypogeans!" Quaedam's voice roared in the minds of the Graveborn. The Lord of Fear summoned countless warriors to defend himself, but they couldn't stop the Hypogeans from breaking into his inner sanctum. As a last resort, he called for Thoran's Grim Legion—his final hope. With the situation on the brink of disaster, Thoran finally arrived, riding atop his Deathwing Dragon. The dragon crashed through the tomb's roof, crushing scores of Hypogeans beneath it. Then, Grezhul led the Grim Legion and leaped through the opening, wiping out the remaining Hypogeans. "You let these filthy Hypogeans get this close to me, Thoran, and you even destroyed my tomb..." Quaedam, exhausted from expending so much power, still sought to punish the Fallen King for failing to protect him. "Kneel before me!" The Lord of Fear poured his magic into a spell, attempting to force Thoran to submit, but Thoran stood tall, his back straight. He began advancing toward Quaedam, step by step. "What have you done?" Quaedam's massive eye darted around in panic. "I struck a deal with my own kind," Thoran said, pulling out the Draconis Gem given to him by Skylan. This was clearly a well-planned rebellion. The Hypogean attack had given Thoran the chance to get close to Quaedam, and the power of the crystal shielded him from the Lord of Fear's control, allowing him to finally stand before the great eye that commanded the Graveborn. Thoran raised his giant sword high, calling down a bolt of lightning through the hole in the tomb's ceiling, striking him with a deafening crash. "I was once the King of Bantus, and now I am the King of the Graveborn!" His voice echoed through the tomb, but every word was crystal clear to all who heard. "And I shall be the sole master of death!" Thoran brought his sword down hard on Quaedam's great eye. Lightning surged through the sword, pouring relentlessly into the eye until it shattered, crumbling into dust and disappearing into nothingness. "The King of Bantus, the King of the Graveborn, the one true ruler of death—long live the King!" Grezhul was the first to kneel, followed by all of the Grim Legion and the Deathwing Dragon. "What are your orders, Your Majesty? What do we do next?" Grezhul asked. "This power... it's so intoxicating. One day, it will be mine forever," Thoran said greedily, gazing at the Draconis Gem. "But until then... well, we have a pact to honor, don't we? Let's slaughter these Hypogeans until there's nothing left of them."
