The sky above the Boneyard was always a heavy, oppressive gray, thick with clouds of ash that seemed to crush everything below. Thankfully, the "people" here didn't need to breathe. This was the land of the Graveborn, where Soul Ambassadors spent their days gathering Riven Souls, placing them into a Soul Urn, and sending them to the Doom Spire to be turned into Graveborn soldiers. But collecting Riven Souls was far from a safe job. These restless spirits were often filled with anger, wild and dangerous, impossible to tame. Some would attack anything that got too close. On the outskirts of the graveyard, a Soul Ambassador reached out with his iron hook toward a pile of bones. A vicious spirit lay in wait, eyeing the Ambassador as its prey, poised to attack. Just as the hook shifted the bones, the Riven Soul lunged. But before it could attack, a pale green Soul Serpent shot out of the urn, sinking its teeth into the raging spirit and dragging it back into the urn. The Soul Ambassador, having narrowly avoided harm, barely reacted—he was used to this kind of thing. He gave the urn a light tap. "Snake, save a little for me, or I won't have anything to turn in." The base of the Doom Spire was where the Soul Ambassadors came to rest. After a day of gathering Riven Souls, they would sleep here until it was time to head out again. In the stillness, the Soul Ambassador suddenly jolted awake, his chest heaving as he struggled to calm himself. Snake slithered out of the urn and rested on his shoulder. The Ambassador could feel the creature's concern. He gently stroked its head and whispered softly: "It's alright, Snake... Just a bad dream." But then he quickly and nervously pushed Snake back into the urn. "But you... you have to stay hidden. They mustn't find out about you." The Soul Ambassador had found Snake a few months ago. It had been a slow day at the Boneyard, and the only thing he'd managed to collect was this snake-like spirit. When he'd reached for it with his iron hook, it didn't run like the others. It didn't attack either. Instead, it slithered up to him and gently nuzzled his hand. "Do you want to come with me?" From that day on, the Riven Soul began residing in the Soul Ambassador's urn. When he returned to the Doom Spire, he didn't turn in the spirit. He felt an indescribable bond with it and even gave it a name—Snake. In the days that followed, the Soul Ambassador began to communicate with Snake, whether intentionally or not. He wasn't sure if Snake could truly understand his commands, but whenever danger approached, Snake would always leap out of the urn just in time to help him out of tight spots. After finishing his work, when the Soul Ambassador returned to the Doom Spire, Snake would quietly stay in the urn. Only in special situations, like today, would it venture out and risk being found. "By the way, do you know someone named Randle?" the Soul Ambassador asked casually, trying to recall the fragmented details from his dreams. The urn shook violently. The corridors inside the Doom Spire twisted and turned, resembling an endless maze. The Soul Ambassador walked silently, his mind clouded with questions that weighed heavily on him. He had been having the same dream lately. In it, he stood atop the spire, surrounded by a group of Soul Ambassadors. The flames of eternal souls burned in their eye sockets, and among their determined faces, some shouted while others murmured, "Randle, lead us to the heights of the spire!" Then, a massive scythe came crashing down, and the Soul Ambassadors fell one by one. He could no longer ignore his nightmares and decided to sneak to the top of the Doom Spire to uncover the secrets buried deep in his memory. Following the winding pipes of the Cauldron of Souls, the Soul Ambassador passed through the area where Graveborn soldiers were created. In a hidden archive room, fragments of his memory began to resurface. There had once been a revolt within the Doom Spire. The Soul Ambassadors grew tired of their monotonous existence, and under the leadership of a Graveborn named Randle, they charged to the tower's peak, hoping to overthrow Niru's rule. However, the revolt was swiftly quelled. The participants had their memories and emotions stripped away and were condemned to serve eternally at the base of the tower as penance. The information in the archives was insufficient to answer all the Soul Ambassador's questions, and the past he shared with Snake remained shrouded in mystery. The Soul Urn emitted a faint vibration, as if urging him to move forward. The Soul Ambassador gently touched the trembling urn. "Snake, were you once my companion in battle?" At the end of the stairs was a dark, damp room, filled with a mysterious device. The instrument was engraved with terrifying runes, and merely gazing at it felt like one's soul was being ripped apart. The Soul Ambassador cautiously approached the device, and the moment his hand made contact, memories flooded his mind like a bursting dam: he saw himself being dragged into this chamber, his body forcibly pressed into the device by guards. Their mocking voices seemed to echo from all directions: "Randle, this is the fate you chose for leading a revolt—forever doomed like a fool." As the scythe fell, the cruel ritual split his soul in two, leaving behind an emotionless shell. Before his consciousness faded completely, he heard the final words of Niru, lord of the Doom Spire. "Look what we've extracted: a serpentine Riven Soul, quite rare indeed. Excellent, my collection just gained another specimen." Snapping back to reality, Randle found himself clenching his fists. He remembered everything: Snake was the most vital part of his soul—his will, his courage, and his yearning for freedom. Even those stripped memories and emotions, transformed into Riven Souls, hadn't given up the fight; they had escaped Niru's captivity, struggling to survive in the wild, and finally reunited with him. Randle held Snake tightly in his arms, feeling his inner strength and resolve begin to awaken. They were just a step away from the spire's summit. Pushing open the final door would lead him directly to the lord of the Doom Spire. Randle had fallen here once, buried in the muck, reduced to a pawn of fate. Now, he had returned. The flames of his soul flickered in his eye sockets as Randle forcefully pushed open the grand door before him. "Let's go, Snake. Our souls may be broken, but they'll never be enslaved again."
