In a medical camp in the Dark Forest, a blindfolded Eironn fumbles around trying to pick up a pair of blades in the corner, but ends up cutting one of his fingers on a sharp edge. He reaches his arm to tear the blindfold off in frustration, but he stays his hand—he mustn't be so foolish. Just a few days ago, a Hypogean army attacked their Dark Forest. Their leader's swordsmanship was as brutal as it was treacherous—Eironn had never seen such a unique technique before. He quickly became immersed in the dance of blades, and without even realizing, broke away from his fellow warriors as he chased the Hypogean into the forest depths. Just as their duel was starting to stall in a stalemate, something suddenly happened. The gust from their clashing blades shook open a nearby poisonous flower, filling the air with a poisonous mist. A burning pain surged in Eironn eyes, and he collapsed to the ground in pain. As his consciousness slipped away, he heard the Hypogean blademaster speak in a mocking tone: "We will settle this matter next time. It would be a pity to kill you like this..." When Eironn finally came to, he was already in the Wilder medical camp. He could count himself lucky—had Gwyneth not come to the Dark Forest to find a doctor for her adoptive father, no one would have happened upon him and brought him back. Even after doing her best, Nemora was not optimistic about Eironn's condition. There was still hope for his eyes, but he would have to undergo treatment and medication for next 20 days. Until he recovered, Eironn would have to wear a blindfold at all times. If he took it off for even a moment, he would remain blind forever. Keeping a firm grasp on his blades, Eironn tried to find inner peace. But it wasn't just the blindness that assailed his spirit—he could also hear the whispered words of blame from the wounded. When Eironn left behind the main detachment to pursue the Hypogean leader, his fellow soldiers quickly became overwhelmed by the enemy. He had given little thought to the possibility at the time, and so he endured their accusations in silence. When others stood up to speak in his defense, the guilt only weighed heavier on his conscience. His motivation to drive the Hypogeans out of his home and atone for his mistake grew stronger by the second, but he had lost his ability to fight. One of the trainee medics told Eironn that Gwyneth had come for another purpose as well—she was seeking a successor to wield the Draconis Gem. When the medic suggested that Eironn could test his worthiness, the swordsman remained silent. Before his blindness, Eironn devoted himself to swordsmanship and never even thought about wielding any other power. Without his sight, he could not even strike properly with a blade. How could he possibly be the person that Gwyneth was looking for? What use is a swordsman who can't even wield a blade? But knew he had to do something. Emotions pulled at Eironn's heartstrings—for the care and concern of his companions and the guilt he felt toward his fellow Wilders. To make himself useful, he agreed to train the children in the camp in swordsmanship. What started as an attempt to pass off just some of the techniques he had long since memorized by heart grew into something much more. No matter how arduous the training, the little Wilders followed his movements closely without falling behind for even a single step. When he heard them talking about their future and their desire to protect those around them, he felt butterflies fluttering in his heart, stirring up emotions that he had never felt before. When Eironn first set out to become a master swordsman, he wished to be free from all distractions and devote himself to that singular craft. As time went on, he became increasingly alienated from his fellow Wilders. It was not until now, seeing these young Wilders in front of him brave his arduous training for the sake of growing stronger and protecting those around them, that he realized how much he had neglected in his own journey. Eironn recalled his journey to the Lightbearer Empire and his tutelage under Thane. He recalled what Thane said after his training: "You've become too obsessed with the blade in your hand. Believe me, there are things in life worth far more." What could be more important to a swordsman than the blade in their hand? He didn't ask this question at the time. But now, he seemed to have found his answer. It had now been 19 days since his injury. As Eironn changed the dressing on his wound for the last time, he could hear Gwyneth walking by with her adoptive father, whose condition had also improved. Tomorrow, he would be able to see the world again. Eironn had always been the reserved type, but he couldn't shake the unexplainable hope he held for when he could open his eyes once more. Just then, a cry broke the tranquility of the medical camp. The Hypogean army, which had remained quiet for many days, attacked again without warning. Far too many of their number had been wounded in this first assault. They had no choice but to withdraw as quickly as possible. Eironn and the other patients would leave through a small pathway under the protection of a group of Wilder warriors, while Nemora would lead the redeployment of their main force. The remaining guards would stay behind to buy them time. Aided by a doctor, Eironn strode quickly and quietly through one of the forest's secret passageways. With the enemy at the gates, time was running out. An eerie silence washed over the trees around them, broken only by the sound of hurried footsteps and hushed breathing. "BOOM!" The loud bang stops Eironn in his tracks. The sound came from Nemora's direction—they must have encountered a Hypogean. Eironn's companions tried to convince him not to intervene. Just a bit longer, and his eyesight would recover. Just one day... one more day, and he would be able to wield his blade again. And yet... Eironn gently took his blindfold off and rushed towards the direction of the explosion. His people were in danger—there are things in life worth far more than a blade. The Hypogean ambush inflicted heavy casualties, and Nemora had been surrounded as she tried to rescue her companions. In the heat of the battle, she failed to catch sight of the Hypogean raising their sword behind her. Several precise slashes flew by Nemora, each felling a swathe of the Hypogeans surrounding her. A tall figure emerged from the chaos, protecting Nemora and the others behind him. "Leave this place. I will cover the way." Upon seeing Eironn's figure, the Hypogean leader immediately brushed away the underlings around him. He had been looking forward to ending their battle properly. The two rushed towards each other in a blur and joined blades in a thunderous clash. The impact from the collision alone was enough to knock all the surrounding Hypogeans to the ground. Eironn struck the Hypogean leader with a reckless blow—even if he had to earn every injury he landed with one of his own, he would not allow the Hypogean any room to breathe. He had to buy as much time as possible for the others before he completely lost his sight. After a few dozen exchanges, Eironn's body had become covered in wounds, and he could feel the darkness creeping back into his vision. His eyes had reached their limit—he could no longer see the Hypogean's movements. The Hypogean leader took keen note of Eironn's state. "You haven't recovered at all, have you?" He had been looking forward to crushing Eironn in a proper fight, but he was just infuriated instead. No one who would give up their blade for the sake of a few puny ants could be a worthy opponent. At his command, the Hypogean soldiers swarmed forward. Eironn stood firm—though his body was at its limit, his heart had never been more at peace. "I don't care. My people are safe." Seconds before he would have been struck down, an icy arrow exploded next to Eironn and forced the advancing Hypogeans back. A dragon's roar pierced through the clouds, announcing Gwyneth's return. The sound of the explosion caused her to turn back just in time to see Eironn's display of valor. "Eironn, allow me to assist! Just focus on the enemy in front of you!" The Draconis Gem attached itself to Eironn's blade and vibrated its power outward, allowing him to sense the Hypogeans' movements. Eironn clenched his blade and engaged the Hypogean leader in another fierce battle. Strike after strike, the tables began to turn. The Hypogean leader had revealed a fatal flaw, and Eironn prepared to land the final blow. The tip of his blade, covered in frost, transformed into a ray of light and pierced through the Hypogean's weakness. The tip of their blade followed their heart's desire, as too did their strikes. As the light faded, the Hypogean leader slowly dissipated into the wind. Having surpassed perfection, Eironn sheathed his blade, and his figure stood tall as he made his way back to his people.
