The Lanward family, known for their military prowess in the Lightbearer Empire, stood alongside the Rayne family as the empire's two pillars. Lucius, as the son of the family patriarch, had been born into great expectations. From a young age, he diligently honed his combat skills, studied military strategies, and laid the foundation for the day when he would inherit his father's armor and fulfill the family's mission as its new commander. At that time, everyone believed that one day Lucius would inherit his father's armor, fulfill the family's mission, and become its new leader. However, the brutality of war changed Lucius. The panicked priests' spells had little to no effect on the chaotic battlefield and Lucius, eager to join his father in confronting the Hypogeans, had no time to comfort them. "Lucius, quickly take the temple priests away from here!" Guard Herbert led soldiers to drag the resistant Lucius out of the tent, who could only watch helplessly as the Hypogean tide swallowed his father's figure. His cries echoed in the night until they were drowned out by the more intense screams of the battlefield. No miracle occurred. Months later, Herbert returned with scars, bringing General Lawrence's armor and shield, along with the worst news... After the male members of the Rayne family fell in battle and the Lanward family lost its patriarch, the pillars of the empire crumbled. Herbert placed the armor and shield into Lucius' hands, silently hoping that Lucius would embrace the legacy of General Lawrence, don the armor, wield his weapons, and lead the army against the Hypogean assault. The ancient set, proudly worn into battle by the Lanward Family patriarchs, held within it powerful and mystical forces. Herbert's journey with the relics had drawn the attention of Hypogeans, but with the help of a Mauler warrior, he managed to safely deliver the relics. In the past, Lucius kept himself away from war and bloodshed, believing that spreading the Divine Light throughout Esperia would free the people from suffering. However, war persisted regardless of his intentions. Over many months, Lucius had tirelessly worked in the capital, leading priests to heal wounded soldiers and dispel the gloom hanging over the people. Yet, the Hypogeans intensified their attacks, and new wounded soldiers constantly awaited the healing power of the temple. As their injuries improved, they would be rushed to the front lines and plunged into endless warfare. Lucius gradually realized that while the Divine Light could alleviate pain and comfort souls, it could not eliminate the root cause of suffering. "I naively thought that pursuing the path of the Divine Light meant escaping from my father's wings. In truth, I have always found shelter under his watch. The freedom to choose and believe in the Divine Light is possible because of soldiers like my father who shield us from unseen dangers." Lucius gently touched his father's armor, countless bloodstains and scars telling the story of his father's bravery and embodying the family's mission. Faced with the defeat on the border and the Hypogean onslaught, Lucius had to make a choice; otherwise, more people would bear the pain of losing loved ones and seeing their homes destroyed. The kingdom was at a critical juncture. The Lanward family needed a successor, and the empire needed a new leader to restore confidence and lead the army.
