Profile

Thutmose III was a renowned military leader and pharaoh of the Eighteenth Dynasty of ancient Egypt, most well known for his military prowess. After officially beginning his reign in 1458 BCE, he began building his empire, progressively expanding his rule to include Syria and Palestine. In 1445 BCE, Thutmose defeated the king of Mitanni in battle, gaining control over the west bank of the Euphrates. Under his military leadership, Egypt grew into an empire that spanned land and sea. Thutmose's military accomplishments gained him the title of "the Napoleon of ancient Egypt". Throughout his entire life, Thutmose was never defeated in battle. Of all the Egyptian dynasties, the Eighteenth Dynasty ruled over the largest territory, had the strongest armies, and lasted longest, and Thutmose III undoubtedly played a critical role in this accomplishment. During his reign, the rulers of Libya and Babylon paid tribute to him, and Palestine and Syria became part of Egyptian territory. He was a brave and highly skilled military leader who led Egypt into an era of unprecedented prosperity.
