Star Savior: how many Observations a featured Savior takes

A featured Savior averages 49.1 Observations, and only 1.8% of players ever need the 200-point exchange. A Cosmic featured Savior is half as likely, and that changes the plan.

A featured Savior in Star Savior costs 49.1 Observations on average. Half of players have one by Observation 35. The 200-point exchange that guarantees the featured Savior is almost never needed: only 1.8% of players reach it without a drop. The Cosmic featured Savior is different. At half the rate, it costs about twice as much, and plenty of players still come away without one.

How each Savior banner splits its rates

Every Savior banner gives an SSR about 4% of the time. What differs is how that SSR rate is divided up:

On a featured banner, the featured Savior takes 2% of the 4%, and the other 34 standard SSRs share what is left. Each drops at 0.0441%, against 0.1029% on the Standard banner. The 8 Cosmic SSRs keep 0.0625% each on both banners. If you are after a particular standard SSR, the Standard banner is the better place to pull for it.

Observations are independent. There is no pity that ramps up as you go, so the featured rate stays 2% on every Observation. That makes the odds easy to state:

  • Half of players have the featured Savior by Observation 35.
  • 86.7% have it within 100.
  • Nine in ten have it by 114.
  • The remaining 1.8% reach 200 and exchange for it.

The exchange caps a featured Savior at 200 Observations. With that cap, the average is 49.1, barely below the uncapped 50.

The exchange rarely changes the average, but it is what makes the featured Savior a certainty. If you must have one before the banner ends, 200 is the budget. If you are happy with good odds, 100 is enough for most players.

The Select Cosmic Savior Observation features a Cosmic Savior at 1%, half the regular rate. Everything scales with it. The median doubles to 69, the average without an exchange is 100, and nine in ten players need up to 230.

The tail is where it hurts. Within 100 Observations, only 63.4% of players have the Cosmic Savior. After 200, the point where the regular banner's exchange would already have paid out, 13.4% are still without one. Before spending on a Cosmic banner, check whether that banner offers an exchange. If it does not, a Cosmic target needs twice the budget and still carries real risk.

Using this

Budget regular featured Saviors at about 49.1 Observations each, with 200 as the ceiling. Treat a Cosmic featured Savior as roughly double that, without a guaranteed ceiling unless the banner states one.
