What maxing a Cookie costs in CookieRun: Kingdom, and why rarity barely changes it

290 Soulstones, 200 Soulcores and 1,965,500 Coins take a Cookie to ★5A, whether it is Common or Ancient. Rarity only changes which Soul Essence you pay.

Taking a CookieRun: Kingdom Cookie to ★5A costs 290 Soulstones, 200 Soulcores and 1,965,500 Coins, and those three numbers are the same for a Common Cookie as for an Ancient one. 7 of the 8 rarities on the ★5A track charge exactly that bill, and Special is the one exception. Beyond Special's shorter ladder, rarity changes one thing: the grade of Soul Essence the Ascension steps ask for.

The bill, rarity by rarity

Every Cookie with a ★ ladder, 191 in all, tops out on one of two tracks. 181 finish at ★5A. The other 10 finish at ★6. Totals are counted from the ★0 step:

Read down the Coins column and the pattern is obvious. The Coin schedule does not care about rarity. Outside Special, neither do the Soulstone and Soulcore counts. Special Cookies need 190 Soulstones and 100 Soulcores, but pay the same Coins. So an Epic, the rarity that holds 115 of the roster, is not more expensive to star up than a Rare in any currency except Soul Essence.

Where the Coins actually go

The ★ steps are cheap. Getting from ★0 to ★5 costs 165,500 Coins in total. The 5 Ascension steps, ★1A to ★5A, cost 1,800,000, and the final ★5A step alone costs 700,000. That puts 92% of the Coin bill past ★5. If Coins are your constraint, stopping at ★5 is the real saving. Choosing a lower-rarity Cookie is not.

An Epic and a Common cost the same 1,965,500 Coins to ★5A. The only difference is Soul Essence.

Soul Essence is the real rarity tax

Soul Essence comes in grades, and each rarity's Ascension steps climb through them. A Common Cookie finishes on 340 Soul Essence, 120 Rare Soul Essence. An Epic needs 360 Soul Essence, 320 Rare Soul Essence, 300 Epic Soul Essence, 30 Legendary Soul Essence. Legendary, Ancient and ★5A-track Dragon Cookies share one heavier recipe. The Coins are fixed, so the question of which Cookie to ascend next is really a question of which grade of Soul Essence you have stockpiled.

The ★6 track works differently

The 10 Cookies whose top step is ★6 skip Soulcores entirely. Their ladder has 7 steps from ★0 to ★6 and is Soulstones all the way: 540 of them, with 160 for the last step alone. It costs only 315,500 Coins, a fraction of the ★5A bill, but every step past ★1 also takes Legendary Soul Essence, 290 in total. The cost moves from Coins to Soulstones. For a ★6 Cookie, Soulstones are the thing to plan around.

Magic Candy, the bigger Coin sink

Every one of the 40 Magic Candies costs 2,769,200 Coins to take from Lv.1 to Lv.30. That is more than the whole ★0-to-★5A ladder. A Cookie with its candy maxed has cost more Coins in candy than in stars.
