Rise of Kingdoms: the real odds of a specific Legendary commander
A Golden Chest gives a Legendary about 1 in 124, but the one you want can be 1 in 2,487. Why the pool gets thinner as it grows, and what 630 sculptures and 50.7 million XP buy.
In Rise of Kingdoms, a Golden Chest gives a Legendary commander 0.8057% of the time, about 1 in 124. That is the chance of some Legendary, and it is shared among 16 commanders. For any one of them the odds are far lower. 8 of them, Julius Caesar among them, drop at 0.0402%, which is about 1 in 2,487. The most common reach only 0.0657%, about 1 in 1,522.
A fixed share, split more ways
The Golden Chest's commander pool comes in several versions, and they differ mainly in how many Legendaries they hold. The total Legendary share barely moves: it stays between 0.81% and 0.87% whether the pool has 12 commanders or 21. Every commander added to the pool takes its slice out of the others.
More Legendaries in the pool does not mean more Legendaries per chest. It means each one is rarer, down to 0.0316% (1 in 3,161) in the largest pool.
So the odds of a specific commander depend as much on which pool you are opening as on luck. The Pull Rates page lists the exact chance of every commander in every version of the pool, alongside Silver Chests and the other summon pools.
Sculptures: the more common route
A Golden Chest is far more likely to give Legendary sculptures than a Legendary commander: 3.0742%, about 1 in 33. That share is also split by commander, so a specific commander's sculpture drops somewhere between 1 in 381 and 1 in 686 chests. That is still several times more often than the commander itself.
Sculptures are also what stars cost. Taking a commander from nothing to 6 stars takes 630 sculptures, and the first 10 of those unlock the commander. A direct commander drop therefore saves you only 10 sculptures, leaving 620 still to go. The final star is the steep one: it alone costs 320, 51% of the whole climb.
What a maxed Legendary costs, and why they look alike
Once you have the commander, levelling costs the same whichever one it is. All 114 Legendaries need exactly 50.7 million XP to reach Lv.60, against 42.2 million for an Epic. At Lv.60 every commander leads 50,000 troops.
Talent points depend on stars as well as levels. Every commander ends with 74 points: 59 from levels and 15 from stars, and the star points arrive only from 5★ onward. Stars also set the level cap. It starts at Lv.10 and rises by 10 per star, so Lv.60 needs all 6. For a full talent tree, then, the sculptures are the real gate, not the XP.
The power figure from skills is flat too. 80 of the 114 Legendaries reach exactly 71,000 with their skills fully upgraded. The number tells you almost nothing about which Legendary is stronger. What separates them is what their skills and talent trees actually do.
Using this
If you are chasing one Legendary, count on its sculptures rather than the commander drop, and budget for the final star, which costs about as much as all the earlier ones combined. The Commander Growth Calculator shows the XP, sculptures, talent points and unit capacity at every level and star, so you can see exactly where a half-built commander stands.
