Tawara Touta was a general from mid-Heian period who was revered as the founder of martial arts in eastern Japan. Later named as Fujiwara-no-Hidesato, he found sudden fame by defeating Taira-no-Masakado. It is said that he defeated a giant centipede large enough to make seven and a half turns around a mountain with just his bow and arrows.

Tawara Touta wielded a golden sword given to him from his ancestor Fujiwara-no-Kamatari, and distinguished himself as a general many times. One day, he was asked by an incarnation of the dragon god to defeat the giant centipede of Mt. Mikami. He spat on his arrow, prayed to Hachiman, and brilliantly defeated the creature.

After receiving a rice bag that never runs out of rice as a reward from the dragon gods, it is said Tawara Touta went through hundreds of oni exterminations and ultimately defeated the immortal demon Taira-no-Masakado.
